Financial Literacy Programs

Practical money skills for real-world Australian households and small businesses

We've spent years working with people across NSW, and one thing comes up constantly: nobody teaches you how to actually manage money. Schools skip it. Parents hope you'll figure it out. Banks assume you already know. So we built something different. Our programs focus on the specific challenges Australians face, from managing variable income to understanding superannuation properly.

Core Learning Modules

Three focused modules covering the financial skills most people actually need, not theoretical concepts you'll never use

MODULE ONE

Income & Cash Flow

Understanding where your money goes is harder than it sounds. Most budgeting advice fails because it assumes steady income and predictable expenses.

  • Building budgets that work with irregular income patterns
  • Setting up systems that don't require constant monitoring
  • Managing seasonal expenses without stress
  • Creating buffer zones for unexpected costs

MODULE TWO

Debt Strategy

Not all debt is bad, but knowing which debt to tackle first makes a massive difference to your financial position over time.

  • Comparing mortgage structures and refinancing options
  • Understanding when credit cards help versus hurt
  • Creating realistic repayment schedules
  • Negotiating with lenders effectively

MODULE THREE

Building Reserves

Emergency funds sound simple until you try to build one. We focus on practical approaches that fit different income levels and life situations.

  • Starting with realistic savings targets
  • Choosing appropriate account structures
  • Understanding basic investment options for longer-term goals
  • Making superannuation work harder without high risk

Who Teaches These Programs

Our instructors come from banking, financial planning, and small business backgrounds. They've seen what actually works in Australian financial situations, not just what looks good in textbooks.

Financial literacy instructor Alastair Finnegan

Alastair Finnegan

Former Bank Manager, 18 years retail banking

Alastair spent nearly two decades helping regional NSW customers with everyday banking decisions. He knows what questions people actually ask and where confusion typically starts. His teaching style is direct and uses examples from real client situations.

Financial literacy instructor Branimir Oskarsson

Branimir Oskarsson

Small Business Accountant, 12 years practice

Branimir works with tradespeople, retailers, and service businesses across western NSW. He's watched businesses succeed and struggle, often based on how owners manage cash flow. His module focuses on practical systems that don't require accounting degrees.

Program Details

Sessions run in person at our Dubbo location, with next cohorts beginning September 2025

Schedule & Format

We run three-hour sessions on Tuesday evenings, starting at 6:30pm. The full program runs over six weeks, covering one module every two weeks. This gives you time between sessions to apply what you've learned and bring questions back to the next class.

Class Size

We keep groups small, maximum 12 participants per cohort. This matters because financial situations vary so much. Smaller classes mean instructors can address individual questions without eating up everyone's time. You'll also work through exercises in pairs, which helps clarify concepts.

What You'll Need

Bring a notebook, calculator, and recent bank statements if you want to work on your actual numbers during class. We provide workbooks and templates for budgeting, debt tracking, and savings planning. Everything stays confidential - you're never required to share specific figures with the group.

Who This Suits

Most participants are managing household finances or running small businesses. Some are dealing with debt, others want better savings strategies. Ages typically range from mid-20s to late-50s. No prior financial knowledge required - we start with fundamentals and build from there.
